Yip Yip is an original Australian folk trio based between Katoomba and Braidwood, New South Wales.
Their music is a distinct blend of traditional lineages, drawing core inspiration from Celtic, Old-timey, Indian, and Western Classical styles. The band consists of three highly accomplished musicians, each bringing a unique background to the group's acoustic sound:
Band Members Trent Arkleysmith (Guitar, mandolin, cello, banjo, vocals, composer): A virtuosic multi-instrumentalist known for his work across folk, bluegrass, and new acoustic music. He blends his classical training with experience in circus and street performance, having toured internationally.
Rachel Johnston (Cello, vocals): An acclaimed cellist and former member of the prestigious Australian String Quartet. She works across a dynamic range of genres (classical, folk, pop, experimental), collaborates with major artists like Missy Higgins and Archie Roach, and researches non-classical cello techniques for her PhD.
Harry O'Donovan (Guitar, banjo, fiddle, vocals): A versatile performer who has developed a unique sound by studying Indian music as well as Old-time Southern Appalachian folk styles under masters like Jody Stecher and Dan Gellert. — Yip Yip Band
