• Lachlan Hawkins

  • With a background in Jazz, Classical and Contemporary Music, Lachlan is an accomplished percussionist who has performed with some of the most celebrated musicians and ensembles in Australia including James Morrison, John Hoffman, Melissa Western, Peter Combe, Kristin Berardi, Elly Hoyt, The View from Madeleine’s Couch and the Queensland Pops Orchestra.

Lachlan completed his jazz studies at the Queensland Conservatorium, during which time he was selected as a national finalist in the James Morrison Scholarship, and later graduated in 2015 with the University Medal for Academic Excellence and First Class Honours. In recent years, Lachlan has begun exploring a solo project, moving away from the drums to explore his voice as a songwriter together with the meditative sounds of the handpan. These songs, inspired by the themes of family, self-acceptance and loss, delicately explore the handpan and voice to create a musical experience filled with heart and honesty. 2018 marked the release of Lachlan’s first studio album, a calm and uplifting collection of original songs brought to life by producer Steve Thornely, together with contributions from some of Australia’s finest young musicians. Following a successful interstate album launch tour of ‘No Enemy Within’, Lachlan was awarded Highly Commended in both the Jazz and World/Folk categories at the 2019 Queensland Music Awards.

Lachlan has presented his original music at the Tablelands Folk Festival, Music by the Sea Festival, PanOz Festival, Palm Creek Folk Festival, Brisbane City Hall, the Stairwell Project at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital as well as sold-out shows around Brisbane and north Queensland.
