With a diverse and powerful repertoire, Voices from the Vacant Lot engage in cultural activism through their dynamic performances, taking you on a global journey of harmony and rhythm. Their music owes much to the traditions of many nations, presented in a new form flavoured by their own influences. They also perform original songs penned by choir members, reflecting issues that affect our common humanity. The addition of percussion sets them apart from other vocal ensembles.
Voices has been performing for 30 years and their history includes ARIA and International World Music nominations for their CD Dance on Your Bones. They have performed before dignitaries including Nelson Mandela, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Gough Whitlam and Jose Ramos Horta. Voices have participated in many major folk festivals around Australia, toured Indonesia and recently performed in the International Choir Festival of Santiago de Cuba.
