  • Monique Clare

Cello-wielding songstress, Monique Clare hails from the foothills of Mount Coot-tha and delivers raw, eclectic folk fusion. Between deep explorations into music traditions from Scotland, Sweden, and the USA, a classical cello degree and a Radiohead obsession, her songs are a melting pot of influences. Gripping vocal lines are woven between earthy cello tones, born out of old traditions but injected with fresh, unconventional ideas. She was recently chosen as the 2017 Folk Alliance Australia Youth Artist of the Year.

In 2016, Monique spent three months immersing herself in folk traditions in America, thanks to grants from the Australia Council and Queensland Government. She has gained a reputation as one of the nation's most exciting emerging folk cellists, having performed across Australia at events such as Woodford and the National Folk Festival. She has worked as a session player for Hanneke Cassel (USA), The String Contingent, the Viola Cloning Project and many others. Having been a member of folk outfit The Mulberry Collective and award-winning duo Rhiannon & Monique, she is now embarking on a solo project. She is a finalist in the QUBE Effect awards and is releasing her debut EP in 2017.
