With heartbreaking lyrics and warm folk melodies, Kelsey Berrington is a singer/songwriter that delivers songs straight from the heart. Born and raised in Brisbane, Kelsey began busking with his acoustic guitar while still in high school, shortly moving on to playing small shows in his home town. While building his live set, he ventured to London where he took up residency at several venues and developed his heartfelt sound by gaining influence from the folk artists and singer-songwriters in the area. After returning home, he recorded and produced his debut album Matchsticks, which culminates his experiences into honest, nostalgic lyrics combined with gentle acoustic melodies.
As an independent musician Kelsey relies completely on his performance and songwriting to survive and has been honing his skills through busking for the last few years. Along with street performing he has also played to festival crowds at Woodford Folk Festival and Samford Animating Spaces Festival and venues.
After recording and releasing his first EP ‘The Little One’ in 2015, Kelsey set to work on his debut album which was recorded over the course of 2017. Collaborating with many talented and passionate musicians including Jamie and Sam Hogg, the album explores the pain and joys of life, being broke and falling in and out of love. Although a solo artist, the album features a full band on many of the 11 tracks, but stays true to his folk roots with a number of solo acoustic songs.
