Echo Deer sing songs about love, drinking, death and desire. This Sydney group play a mix of folk ballads, country bawlers, blues, bluegrass, all with sweet harmonies. Think a bit Old Crow Medicine Show, Townes van Zandt, JJ Cale and Fleet Foxes, and you’re on the right track. Starting as a duo, the group has grown to a five-piece over the last few years. They have become a regular fixture on the Sydney live music scene and the festival circuit with their high-energy and highly entertaining shows. Echo Deer played at Majors Creek back in 2015 and most recently appeared at the 2017 Illawarra Folk Festival.
The band brings together a bunch of experienced musicians with a shared love of folk, country and old time music. Echo Deer take a collective approach to their songwriting and on stage, with everyone sharing lead vocal duties at some point in the show. The line-up is on acoustic guitar Dave Perram (Billygoat & the Mongrels, CJ Shaw), on double bass Ben Prest (High Ceilings), on electric guitar Simon Wegman (Foreign Electric), on banjo Alexi Grivas (Heavy Daze) and on drums renowned singer-songwriter Hollie Matthew.
Echo Deer recently finished recording their second EP at The Plex Studio with Brian Campeau, which is scheduled for release in late 2017.
